WHOLE FOOD PLANT BASED EATING
(WFPB)
Most travellers are
in Australia to experience a country that “may”
be different to their own. Food too may be
different to what you are used to. “I only eat
Congee for breakfast”, doesn't work here sorry.
We like Congee too, but others may not.
But, "I only eat
fruit for breakfast" - We commit to (AT LEAST) 1
piece of "seasonal" fruit, for each person at
breakfast time - we cannot afford to "fill you
up" with as much fruit as you want - If that is
what you want, (space permitting), you can
store, what YOU purchase, in our fridge(s). We
have 1000 litres of fridge space
Australia is so very multicultural, that
defining an Aussie cuisine is near impossible.
Hence you get a range of foods “typically” eaten
by (Vegan) Aussies. Vegan is quite different to
WFPB eating.
PLEASE let us make it clear –
we do not cater to those on special diets, Raw,
Celiac, Gluten free, Paleo, Allergenic, Ketogenic
and the myriad of “other” “diets”. IF you write to
us and say I am allergic to peanuts ONLY, (Or
something similar), we can probably work around
that. Plus we have burned out three blenders. One
couple bought us a blender, as a going away
present - heartwarming!!! We limit juicing to
"Host initiated", to contain costs. We DO include
occasional Juiced Food, but not every day.
If there is a list of foods you cannot eat, please
send us your list. If we can work with
it we will. Last "family" here could not eat Gluten
or foods with sugar added. We worked around that
on that occasion as the family were our only
guests.
Picky eaters, often dictate what everyone eats as
we cannot put our usual ingredients in (say curry)
or many foods, as we may upset them. It was/is
very unsettling watching someone removing all
corn, peas, capsicum, etc.. from a curry, before
what was left, was acceptable to them. It is
unfair to those that eat "the rainbow".
Hence, it is a nightmare trying to work with
"picky eaters" If there is a Particular item you
are allergic to - you MUST let us know, for
your safety, as we cook and serve the
"Rainbow".
VERY rarely, we have to decline
accepting guests with these issues, it is MUCH
better for everyone, if they choose a host more
compatible with their way of life. If you
cannot eat something, please tell us, it saves us
money and us both “heartache”. HOWEVER, If we can
work with you, we will.
We NEVER purchase food to accommodate the –
chosen/medical - diet of our guest, WITHOUT you
writing to us first and explaining. With this
knowledge we “will try” to come to some agreement
with you.
MEALS
BREAKFAST:
You make your own and serve yourself.
(THE
most difficult meal of the day, for non Asian
people)
Breakfast is “continental” and this can mean a
myriad of things to many people - Here it means
Cereal (We tend to buy Wheetbix – Wholegrain,
NO SUGAR Variety – (raw sugar on the table)
you serve yourself. Plant milks usually B12
fortified Soy. which can be used on your cereal.
The soy milk we buy has a neutral taste. We do NOT
buy or offer fruit juice, but you can buy &
store in our fridge if you wish. Bottomless tea
and coffee is available all day + some other
beverages.
``There will also be a variety of breads, Jams,
Peanut Butter, Vegemite, Marmite and one piece of
“seasonal” fruit. Most often there are SEVERAL
choices for your
piece of fruit.
NO COOKING takes place at breakfast time, except
in winter, where hot porridge may be served. You
can of course toast your bread. Of course no
Animals are ever cooked.

what is available on the table.
MIDDAY MEAL:
During the days we only have HelpX, Workaway,
Warmshowers and Couchsurfing, we do Not cook
lunch. We put a selection of breads/noodles/rice and
"fillings" salad and may reheat excess food,
from the night before. We exercise "controls" on
re-heated food and will explain to you - in person.
EVENING MEAL - "USUALLY" The
biggest meal of the day, dependant on type of
guest(s)
It is usually around 18:00hrs but not later
than 19:00hrs as long as we can talk with everyone.
“I want to go to Perth City and be home at 22:00”
“can I cook my meal then?” If
you choose not to be here at meal times,
you will need to provide for yourself, at
YOUR expense. OR reheat leftovers from Dinner. We
have two Microwaves to service our guests. The food
served is different EVERY day, always vegan.
MEAL TIMES
Flexibility is the key, MOST people will
talk with us and we can fit in with most scenarios.
But, as always, there are those that simply say "I
am going out", they offer no indication for how
long, OR if they will even return for a meal. So we
set meal times. When we have people working 8am -
1pm at the Temple, we schedule lunch for 1pm, 5 days
a week. Weekends, we listen to those that choose to
discuss with us. Within each meal time frame we
only cook ONCE.
NO REFUNDS FOR THOSE CHOOSING
NOT TO BE AVAILABLE AT MEAL-TIMES OR
THOSE CHOOSING NOT TO EAT ANY MEAL.
Breakfast: 0700 - 0800 weekdays - 0700 - 10:00
on weekends.
Lunchtime Window: 1200 - 13:30 - If YOU are the only
guest, we can be flexible. Otherwise these are the
set times - see above for Temple workers.
Dinner: 18:00 - 1900. We are not a commercial
kitchen and cannot keep food warm for long periods.
Those returning from work/study late in the evening
- Dinner is reheated.
We keep our costs LOW for you, by enforcing "NO
COOKING YOUR OWN MEALS AT ANY TIME" - if you need
more flexibility, it may be better if you choose
accommodation that will cater to your specific needs
OR self catering, many options in Perth.
SNACKS
Should you wish to munch on things between meals –
you will need to purchase these things for yourself.
PLEASE respect our vegan home, when buying snacks.
Occasionally we have an array of snack foods, such
as Nuts, Seeds, vegan chocolate etc...
NO REFUNDS FOR THOSE
CHOOSING NOT TO BE AVAILABLE AT MEAL-TIMES
OR THOSE CHOOSING NOT TO EAT ANY MEAL.
NON FOOD ITEMS
Please bring your own shampoo,
toothpaste, razors, etc.. Yes it is sad this needs
to be stated. I will say no more.
